What happens if I die without a will?

The state decides what happens to your stuff, using something called intestacy rules. Unmarried partners get nothing automatically. Kids from a previous relationship can be cut out without anyone meaning to cut them out. Stepchildren usually get nothing. It's a mess, and it's a completely avoidable one.

Do I need a Lasting Power of Attorney as well?

Probably, yes. An LPA lets someone you trust make decisions for you if you can't make them yourself — there are two types, one for your health and welfare, one for your property and finances. Most people don't bother until something happens, and by then it's too late to set one up. Worth doing now, while it's a boring job and not an urgent one.

Wherever and whenever works for you. Evenings, weekends, at your kitchen table, in the office, or over a Teams call. Most people hate the idea of sitting in a solicitor's office to talk about dying — so we come to you instead.
